New year’s resolutions come around every year with all the good intentions to be better, have more and weigh less. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves. It’s no wonder that over 60% of us fall off the tracks and over 40% of those fail our resolutions within one month of making them.
New Year’s Resolution Tips
Here are some tips for making your resolutions and sticking to them:
- Make ONE resolution and give it your full attention.
- Base your resolution on a PROCESS rather than a result.
- Tell EVERYONE, friends, family and colleagues about your goal.
- Have a PLAN of action.
- Accept that progress isn’t going to be linear. You will have set backs but that’s ok.
If you stick to these 5 rules and remind yourself of them regularly, you will smash your goals in 2019 and beyond.
Process vs Result Based New Year’s Resolution
More than 65% of people in the UK set their new year resolution to lose weight or to get into shape and an extra 33% want to eat more healthily in 2018. Base your resolution on a process rather than a result. A resolution based on a result for example, would be to lose a set amount of weight. Rather than pledging to lose weight or get into shape, aim to invest more time, money and resources into your health instead and you will lose weight and get into shape as a result. Your health should be a priority in your life not something you might get around to. Take the pressure off yourself and don’t worry about what the scales say or what you look like in the mirror. Put a plan in place to improve your health whether, that is joining a gym, attending a class, walking to work, having one less glass of wine or even just having more time to relax. Your health is an investment not an expense.
Make the investment to improve your health this year and you may finally get the results that you have always wanted.
